Rainbow paper

Hurumanu - Rainbow Paper

Aim: To separate colours by using the process of chromatography.

Definition: Chromatography is a method of separating out materials from a mixture.
Eg. blood, ink, drugs,

Scenario
A crime has been committed. The police have a signed cheque and a letter from the same crime scene but it seems like the handwriting is different. They have 3 suspects but not enough evidence. They need to know if the letter and the cheque were written by the same person.

How do they tell if the pens used for both of these pieces of evidence are the same?

Materials;

1. paper
2. cup
3. coloured pens
4. water
5.

Process:

Step 1:Get a cup
Step 2:draw 2 dots 1 cm below the top
Step 3:Make it hang in the cup but let it touch the ground
Step 4: Put some water in the cup
Step 5:watch the colour drain

Conclusion: What have I learnt from this experiment?
if you put paper with two coloured dots on paper then dip it in warm water it changes the waters colour

Ballon science

Hurumanu - Balloon Chemistry

Image result for baking soda balloonsAim: To see which chemical
mix creates the most gas.

Hypothesis: (What do I think will happen) I think the baking soda and vinegar will create the most gas.

Materials:
  1.  Plastic bottle x3
  2.  Balloon x3
  3.  Baking soda x1
  4.  Vinegar x1
  5.  Salt x1
  6.  Soda water x1
  7. Yeat x1
  8. Sugar x1

Steps:
  1.  Get a plastic bottle , balloon and the the ingredients.
  2. Put the ingredients in the bottle along with with some warm water
  3. Watch the balloon grow
My images:

Balloon 1
( 3 tsp baking soda, ½ cup vinegar)
Balloon 2
( 3 tsp salt, ½ cup soda)
Balloon 3
( 2 tsp yeast, 1 tsp sugar )
Balloon Size

Conclusion:?
This experiment was fun the faster gas the comes out the faster the balloon grow bigger. The slower the gas comes out the smaller the balloon. The fastest balloon was the baking soda and vinegar experiment.

Home chemistry 10 ingredients

Home Chemistry

Aim: To learn the names of 10 household chemicals and identify if they are a solid, liquid or a gas.

Definitions:

  1. Element; A single form of a chemical
  2. Compound: A mixture made up of 2 or more elements
  3. Reaction: A process in which chemicals mix together to form a new substance.
  4. Mixture: When two or more elements are mixed together.

Task 1: Put the 10 chemicals in a chart with the titles - Name, Chemical ingredient(s), Image, Solid/Liquid/Gas.

Maths d.l.o

Maths d.l.o

This weeks fir maths we have been learning to round tidy numbers we got taught you can only round if the tenths is 5 or above for example 9.5 you round it up to 10.00 because the tenths column is 5 so you can round it up if its below 5 in the tenths column you can't round it up

Stop,Write,Hear

Stop,Write,Hear

This term we have started something called stop, write, hear It it an art thing the teachers have started for us at school. The stop stands for stop motion,The write stands for write and the hear stands for hear. We have been creating story boards in groups of 4. This my groups story board. The feed back we got from an other was helpful, maybe make it more under standing. thoughtful, I like the concept and full detail, Positive, I really like the detail you put in to your story and I like the characters.
